Project : Al-Nasr Street

Project: Al-Qarmani Historical Garden

Location: Damascus Year: 2018

I’m delighted to share one of my projects in the field of landscape architecture and garden design. This project presents a comprehensive proposal to revitalize the historic Al-Qarmani Garden in Damascus, located in a central area east of Al-Marjeh Square and forming an integral part of the urban fabric of the Old City.

The design is guided by a vision that integrates:

  • Preserving historical identity
  • Activating public spaces
  • Strengthening the garden’s connection with its surrounding community

This work was developed as part of my Master’s project in Garden and Landscape Design, Planning, and Environmental Management at the Higher Institute for Regional Planning, within the course Foundations of Environmental Treatments.

The study focused on:

  • Historical research and analysis of existing site conditions
  • Developing a design strategy to rehabilitate the garden as a vibrant historic public space
  • Proposing the adaptive reuse of Al-Qarmani Bath as a museum documenting the history of Damascene baths
  • Highlighting and conserving the ancient columns
  • Reviving the old market through pedestrian pathways that preserve the memory of the place
  • Activating traditional cafés and outdoor seating areas
  • Strengthening connections between the garden and its social and cultural context

I’m pleased to share this project and hope it contributes to the sustainable revitalization of historic spaces, balancing cultural heritage with contemporary urban life.
